RUBY The transparent red variety of corundum is ruby. Found chiefly in Myanmar, Thailand, and Sri Lanka and classified among the most valuable of gems. Rubies are commonly enhanced by heat treating. Ruby is the official birthstone for the month of July. It is also the Zodiac birthstone for Capricorn.
Ruby is given as a gem for the 40th wedding anniversary.

SAPPHIRE Sapphire is the non red variety of corundum. Blue is by far the most popular color for sapphires, but they can be almost any color including yellow, green, white, colorless, pink, orange, brown and purple.
Sapphire is the official birthstone for the month of September. It is also one of the birthstones for the zodiac signs of Pices,Taurus, Virgo and Sagittarius. Sapphire is given as a gem for the 5th, 23rd, and 45th wedding anniversies while a star sapphire is given on the 65th wedding anniversary.

Emerald is one of the four precious stones along with Ruby, Sapphire, and Diamond. Emerald is a medium or darker green beryl. The green color comes from imbedded impurities of chromium and vanadium. Emeralds are almost always included to one degree or another. They are also commonly enhanced by oiling to fill fractures.
Emerald is the birthstone for May. It is the zodiac birthstone for Cancer. It is given as a gift for the 20th and 35th wedding anniversaries.
